A Special Thank You to Our Clergy Leaders: Join Us for the March on Wall Street and Amplify Our Call for Justice

Dear Members of NAN,

“No justice. No peace!”

I am writing to invite your participation in an important and timely survey concerning the role of clergy in political discourse, particularly in light of recent discussions around the potential repeal or revision of the Johnson Amendment—the longstanding provision that prohibits religious leaders from endorsing political candidates from the pulpit while maintaining their organizations’ tax-exempt status.

Given our shared commitment to the moral and civic flourishing of our communities, and the unique ethical responsibilities we bear as faith leaders, your perspective is invaluable. This survey seeks to gather insights on:

• How clergy perceive the role of religious authority in political endorsement;

• The potential impact such endorsements may have on congregational unity and public witness;

• Whether or not your tradition supports or discourages overt political engagement from the pulpit;

• And what safeguards or principles should guide clergy if these legal barriers are lifted.

Our hope is not only to assess sentiment but to foster informed dialogue among our clergy, ensuring that our collective voice remains wise, measured, and prophetic.

You may access the survey here:

All responses will remain confidential, and a summary of the findings will be shared with participants and made available by my office. If your community or tradition would like to host a follow-up dialogue or roundtable discussion, we welcome that collaboration.

In a time of deep political division and cultural tension, the voice of faith must be both courageous and careful. May we discern together what it means to be faithful stewards of our influence—not only as preachers of truth, but as guardians of peace, justice, and unity.

In closing, I want to personally invite each of you to join us for the March on Wall Street on August 28, 2025. This event is crucial as we come together to demand economic justice and accountability. Your presence and leadership are vital in amplifying our message and inspiring others to stand with us.

The march is more than a demonstration; it is a powerful statement of our collective resolve to fight for a more equitable and just society. By uniting, we can drive meaningful change and ensure that the voices of our communities are heard.

Attached to this message is a graphic for the march. We kindly ask that you share this graphic on your social media platforms and display it on screens in your churches. Please share it with anyone else who can help spread the word. We need everyone to be a part of this movement.

I hope you will join us in this critical movement. Your support and participation will make a significant impact.

Thank you for your continued commitment to justice and equality.
